Product Care & Maintenance
Spool & Frame Finish The Prism reels have a black powder coated finish which is corrosion resistant but should be thoroughly rinsed in fresh water after exposure to saltwater to protect it. It can be immersed in warm soapy water and scrubbed with a soft brush to dissolve any salt buildup which may be in the reel. Anti-corrosive products such as spray polishes, and oils etc. are not required, but may preserve the long-term aesthetics of the reel.
Lubrication High quality grease, such as Cal's 2 Speed, should be applied to:
- The roller bearing and hex retainer spring at the baseof the draw bar
- The spindle where it contacts the bearings within the spool
Drag Surface
The Prism drag surface is protected from dirt and debris and should not need additional lubrication.
Removing the Spool
Remove the spool by sliding the small, silver lever located on the center of the spool face and then lifting the spool from the frame.
Reversing the Retrieve
Once the spool has been removed, locate the wire hes spring at the base of the draw bar. Using the flat side of a screwdriver depress the side of ths spring to remove it. Underneath you will see the gray one-way roller bearing. Slide it up the draw bar, flip it over and put it backin place. If the reel is well lubricated, the bearing may want to stick in the grease. If this occurs, carefully work the roller bearing until it breaks free of the grease. Once the bearing has been replaced, put the hex spring backin place and reconnec the spool.
